Get the -base and -gui packages of both the installer and snapshot tool. You get to run gparted to partition the drive how you want, install to the partition you want, and have a separate /home partition if you want.

The installer will install that system from the running live-CD. Refractasnapshot and refractainstaller might do exactly what you want (with some minor tweaking.) The snapshot tool will make a bootable live-CD of your installed system, along with your custom configurations and any of your personal files that aren't in the list of excuded files/directories. additionally, if i could set menu options and such, that would be just great. can i place it on the install disc so that they get installed as well without me having to do all of that stuff (bear in mind they require me to add open jdk 6 and a couple of sources in the software sources list).
